GEMA Conducts Team Building and Emotional Intelligence Training Workshop for Staff

The Human Resource Department of the Ga East Municipal Assembly (GEMA) has organized a two-day training workshop for selected staff to enhance their team-building skills and emotional intelligence. The training, conducted by Macro Mix Limited, aimed to equip the participants with effective teamwork characteristics, factors that hinder teamwork, and the ability to provide constructive feedback.

The 40 participants, comprising mainly of Heads of Departments and Units and Senior Officers of the Assembly, learned how to identify the skills required to work efficiently as a team and the factors that impact teamwork. The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Mrs Elizabeth Kaakie Mann, commended the HRD for the training workshop and urged the participants to utilize the knowledge acquired in their daily work.

Mrs Marianne Aba Abraham, Human Resource Manager, GEMA, revealed that the training followed needs assessment and recommendations by external assessors. She stated that the training was vital for all staff and that she hoped it would translate into an improvement in their work performance.

Dr. Bashiru Shani, Lead Consultant, Macro Mix Limited, emphasized the crucial role of top management in supporting teamwork efforts and the need for equity at the workplace to maximize collective efforts for success. He urged the Heads to pass on the knowledge acquired to their subordinates and to make conscious efforts to include them in their operations.

Participants were taken through various topics in Team-Building, including the meaning of team, team-building, stages of team formation, characteristics of an effective team, symptoms of weak team spirit, skills of a team player, emotional intelligence, and the team leader’s role.

All in all, the training was a success, with participants gaining valuable insights on effective teamwork and emotional intelligence. It is hoped that the knowledge gained will translate into better work performance and a more cohesive work environment.
